Todays post will discuss total searches, SEO competition, and a little about trends in your keywords niche market. Never thought you could start a home business just by searching for ideas using keyword research? After today, I hope to change the way you “get ideas for home business”!
What does this have to do with article marketing? Everything! You see, once you get a great idea for a business you can run from home, you will need to write articles to drive traffic. Of course, there are many other things to consider when your starting a business. You need to know about your competition, how much traffic your niche actually gets, etc.
The total searches I look at is the daily quantity of searches. If there is roughly 80 searches a day, I will look further into the keyword. I personally run Market Samurai when searching because it offers up so damn much information. Another program I use is Keyword Elite. Yeah, both cost, but the amount of money each of those programs make me justifies the initial cost.

Can you imagine if you dominated that niche market? Let’s say your number one in a Google search, you would get a significant amount of that traffic. Of course, you won’t be going for that particular keyword now will you? But, this is a good place to start your research!
If you look at the column SEOC - that’s the competition for that particular keyword (5,630,000). That’s why you don’t want to try an launch a business with that keyword. A good range would be between 30,000 to about 50,000. It will be a whole lot easier to gain market share. So, what you would now do is take the keyword business insurance and do a search on it to gain keywords related to that niche market. Within that search, you will most likely come up with a great keyword (phrase) that falls within the 30,000-50,000 range.
At this point, your going to want to know about the trends in your chosen marketplace. Let’s take a look at the trends within the insurance business niche. Just by looking at the bar graph above, you will notice that it appears to be pretty good year round. If we go over to google.com/trends, we will see the following graph:
Within the trends page at Google, you will also be able to see where the traffic comes from. This is critical to knowing your market. Especially when the time comes to begin writing articles to market your business. With the down turn of the economy throughout the world, you will need this kind of information to continue to succeed in your niche market. On the trends page, you can narrow things down to 6 month’s to get a tighter view on what your niche is doing.
Guess what? This is just the start. You will need more information then just this to make a proper decision as to whether or not your ideas for home business will be successful. In reality, even if you do all the research right, a niche just may not work out.
